Big D Cycling Dominates at 360 Cup!

As the great American and superior cyclocross racer Steve VanNieuwenhuyse put it, “What a great team showing. A good day for Big D and to be part of this team!”  I couldn’t have said it better myself.  Big D Cycling, sponsored by Keen Wealth Advisors, simply put up outstanding efforts on top of outstanding efforts at the 360 Cup 2015 – Kansas State Cyclocross Championships.

Cody Jones started our day off with a crushing first lap and demolished the field to get the victory in the Category 4 race.  Steve VanNieuwenhuyse used proper team tactics to finish in second place.  This was to be Steve’s last as a Category 4, since he moved up to Category 3 after the race.  I’m sure Cody will be soon to follow.

The always competitive Masters field saw Big D Cycling get a solid 5th place from Paul Aldeguer in the 40+ age group.  In the 50+ age group, aided by an injury and a course to his liking, Jim Clevenger hauled in the victory, with Paul Fancher riding to 3rd place and Chip Zimmer in 6th place. Our 65+ combo of Reg Robertson and Bill Jennings took 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Amy VanNieuwenhuyse kept the Big D rolling with a strong 3rd place in the Women’s Cat. 4 race. Nigel Vaught continues to show progress while battling much older competitors to finish 3rd in the juniors.  Other notable performances include Peter Whalen’s 5th place and Chris Braley’s 12th place. It is great to seeing these Keen Wealth Advisors-sponsored riders improve and have fun doing it.

In the Cat. 3 race, Nick Comiskey put on a show this cloudy Sunday afternoon!  At the end of the first lap he put a ferocious attack that ripped the legs off all but one competitor. Nick pulled this rider around the course lap after lap. There were many calls of “wheel sucker” and even more colorful terms aimed at his companion from Nick’s fans (none wearing our kits). Just before the last lap, a small gap formed.  Nick put the hammer down and dropped his pursuer to give Big D Cycling its 3rd win of the day.

Special thanks to our friends and rivals, 360 Racing, for putting on a first class event with a great course and fun for all. A good day for Big D Cycling, a good day indeed!

Special thanks to Roger Harrison of Lanterne Rouge for these great action shots. See more of his great photography on his flickr page.
